When compared to a competing set of 3D glasses, the Panasonic TY-EW3D10U, the PGD-150 has certain disadvantages, such as a shorter battery life, and incompatibility with certain 3D products (it was designed for used with ViewSonic's projectors and desktop displays).
The ViewSonic PGD-150's Active Shutter glass uses highly precise control to close the shutters in both eyes, right at the moment the image shifts towards the opposite eye. This creates the 3D effect, as well as giving the user a blur-free experience. The 50ft use distance allows people sitting far away from the source to still receive the 3D effect. This may be helpful in the case of a teacher giving a lecture to their students using a 3D projector. The water and dust proof design ensure that the glasses will not break or wear down easily.
