The Definitive Technology Mythos SSA-42 is a 5 channel sound bar speaker designed for home theater surround sound. Center, Left/Right and two rear channels combine for a total of 5 channels for a complete 5.1 surround sound experience. The .1 refers to the additional 'sub' frequency channel or more plainly a subwoofer channel, which most A/V receivers support. Although a sub is not included, most systems will benefit from having one. The speaker system for the front three main channels (L/R/C) uses a dual support-point cone structure. Instead of the usual one connection or 'support' point between the base of the cone in most speakers, there are two support connections, providing better articulation and higher output. This model, measuring 40" long, is the 'little brother' to the 46" SSA-50, both of which come in either polished silver or glossed black finish and are made from aircraft-grade aluminum. These speakers should only be used with 5.1 or 7.1 surround receivers which can run all channels simultaneously.
